Zero Friends Again
Episode 5 of Skeleton Crew ended with Jod Na Nawood betraying Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB, taking control of Captain Rennod’s ship, the Onyx Cinder, and also forcing SM-33 to serve as his first mate. In an attempt to escape, Wim triggers a trap to escape from the lair that makes them tumble down into the snowy mountains of Lanupa. On the mountain, everyone is fine but KB is unable to move due to her cybernetics malfunctioning. Fern can reset her cybernetics, but KB remains sluggish.
Meanwhile, Jod climbs out of Captain Tak Rennod’s treasure pit and encounters pirates which are led by Gunter, who take him and SM-33 as hostages. However, their capture is interrupted when New Republic X-wings suddenly appear which forces the pirates to flee along with Jod and SM-33. The kids, who are watching the air battle from a distance, realize that the X-wings are allies this time.
KB reveals she has the coordinates for At Attin stored in her cybernetics. Fern proposes that we should climb back up to the Cinder, but KB suggests that we should consider other options. A disagreement arises, with Wim and KB siding to follow the Trash Crabs, who have offered to guide them. Hurt by KB’s decision, Fern declares that the group is splitting up and she takes Neel with her to climb on top of the mountain. As Neel struggles to climb, he voices his frustrations about Fern’s leadership.
On the other hand, KB admits to Wim that after her accident, she has been left with some limitations that Fern often overlooks. Wim reassures her by promising that she already has a valued friend in him and Neel. KB smiles, but at the same time, she begins to falter, and Wim, seeing this, quickly repairs her cybernetics just in time to save her life.
In the junkyard, Wim and KB face the massive trash crab parent while Fern and Neel board a junkyard ship that is carrying the Cinder. Fern takes control of the ship and rescues Wim and KB, who jump aboard the junkyard ship. However, the trash crab throws a rock, which sends the ship spinning out of control and into the snow. The group is able to survive this, and the Cinder lands nearby. Fern apologizes to KB for not understanding her, and the two reconcile before a distant rumble draws their attention. They see a massive junkyard ship that is heading straight for the Cinder, destroying everything in its path.
The kids rush to save Cinder and work together to escape. KB jumpstarts the engine while Wim holds off the junkyard beast with the turret. Neel handles the throttle as Fern pilots, but the junkyard ship clamps onto the Cinder. Fern recalls the Emergency Hull Demolition Sequencer from earlier and hits it. An explosion ripples through the ship, shedding its outer layer and allowing the group to escape in a smaller but functional vessel despite its slightly burning engine.
