The Journey Begins: Exploring Friendship and Danger in Skeleton Crew's Opening Episodes

by seojunior rankistan 05 Dec 2024

Skeleton Crew, the latest edition in the Star Wars franchise, is here. The series is about four kids who find themselves in a galactic adventure that takes them to the dangerous parts of the galaxy. This new series is a mix of nostalgia with a breath of freshness as it tries to keep the old Star Wars vibe alive while trying to capture the interests of the younger generation. The show premiered on 2nd December.

Spoiler Warning: This article contains a detailed overview of the first two episodes of the series.

Episode 1: “This Could Be a Real Adventure”

In the opening scene of the series, we see the harsh realities of pirate life. The series begins with a ship attacking and trying to take control of a bulk freighter. The attacking ship turns out to be of Captain Silvo and his pirate crew who were after the Credits that were in the vault of the freighter. But all the plans of the pirate were destroyed as the vault turned out to be empty. Seeing this the pirate quickly turned on their captain and he tried to escape.

In the next scene, we see Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), who is playing with his action figure and is called by his dad Wendle (Tunde Adebimpe) to get ready for school. Then we see Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), who is an alien with blue skin. He and Wim are best friends and both love to play pretend lightsabers.

On the other hand, there is Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and KB (Kyriana Kratter). Both girls are best friends and love to race hoverbikes. Fern is rebellious while KB is a tech nerd. All four of the kids live on the planet At Attin and go to the same school.

While in school Fern learns about a mysterious metallic door Wim found in the woods. She and KB decide to check it out. Wim also reaches there with Neel. KB calls “claimsies” on the door and manages to open it up. All of them enter the place and in a surprising turn of events, they all get locked in this mysterious place.

To open the door, KB wakes the thing up from hibernation mode only to discover it is a ship named Onyx Cinder. Despite being warned by Fern not to touch anything, Wim presses a button that takes the ship hovering into the sky. The episode ends with the ship flying towards the sky and the kids scared and stuck inside, but little did they know this was just the beginning of their adventure.

Episode 2: “Way, Way Out Past the Barrier”

The second episode begins with the ship in hyperspace and the kids scared for their lives. As the ship stops, a scary droid SM-33 (Nick Frost) appears who is loyal to the ship’s captain. Fern manages to make the droid believe she is the new captain of the ship and orders him to take them back to their home which is At Attin. The droid, unable to record the coordinates of that place, suggests that they go to Port Borgo, where they will be able to get help. Not knowing that Port Borgo was a dangerous place, the kids agreed to go and ask for help.

On Borgo, Wim and Neel quickly get in danger as they possess Old Republic Credits, which the pirates are after. On the other hand, Fern and KB also find themselves in danger as they reveal they are from At Attin, which they learn is an eternal lost treasure world.

Just as the pirates are about to capture the kids, SM-33 appears and fights them off. All of them run back to the ship and the kids get to know they were on a pirate ship and Port Borgo is a pirate Starport. After making this shocking revelation SM-33 is shot dead by Brutus, who orders the kids to be put in the brig.

In the brig, the kids are scared and thinking of ways to go back home. As Fern, KB, Neel and Wim fight, a voice appears from the shadows telling them to stop fighting as he will help them get back home but only if they take him with them. Just then Jod (Jude Law) appears from the shadows asking the crew if they can keep a secret.

This is it for now from our side, find out what happens in the third episode of Skeleton Crew.
